Adjusting Hydraulic Twine Arm Cylinder Initial Length

NOTE: If either hex block (E) or end block (B) of the twine cylinder have been removed, the following procedure will bring the cylinder's retracted and extended lengths close to settings required for proper twine cutter tension and twine arm position at right end of bale (457 and 457S). These settings must be checked (and reset if necessary) when the cylinder is installed on baler.

1. With all parts on cylinder rod, fully extend cylinder.

2. Loosen jam nut (C) and turn end block (B) on cylinder rod to obtain distance (A) to specifications. Tighten jam nut.

Specification

Cylinder (457 and 457S) -Distance 652 mm (25-43/64 in.)
Cylinder (557) -Distance 662 mm (26-1/16 in.)

3. Fully retract cylinder. (Hex block (E) must contact cylinder end cap.)

4. Measure distance (D). Distance should be within specifications.

Specification

Cylinder (Retracted) -Distance 466 mm (18-11/32 in.)

5. If distance is not to specifications, loosen jam nut (F).

6. Turn hex block (E) until specifications is obtained. Tighten jam nut (F).

7. Install cylinder. (See INSTALLING HYDRAULIC TWINE ARM CYLINDER-457, 457S or 557 in this section.)
