Preparing Baler for Transport

causym CAUTION: To avoid injury to others, transport baler with bale chamber empty.

ALWAYS transport baler in the transport position. Failure to do so may result in personal injury or property damage.

1. Empty bale chamber before transporting.

2. Raise pickup fully.

3. Raise bale chute at rear of bale case to reduce wear on friction washers.

4. Make sure jackstand is in storage position. (See STORING JACKSTAND in Preparing the Baler section.

causym CAUTION: Prevent collisions between other road users, slow moving tractors with attachments or towed equipment, and self-propelled machines on public roads. Frequently check for traffic from the rear, especially in turns, and use hand signals or turn signal lights.

Use headlights, optional flashing warning lights, and turn signals day and night. Follow local regulations for equipment lighting and marking. Keep lighting and marking visible and in good working order. Replace or repair lighting and marking that has been damaged or lost.

When transporting the machine on a road or highway at night or during the day, use accessory lights and devices for adequate warning to operators of other vehicles. Check local governmental regulations. Various safety devices are available from your John Deere dealer. Keep safety items in good condition. Replace missing or damaged items.

5. Be sure SMV emblem, warning lights, and reflectors are clean and visible. Replace worn or damaged items. Make sure baler warning lights operate with tractor warning lights.

causym CAUTION: A safety chain will help control drawn equipment should it accidentally separate from the drawbar. Using the appropriate adapter parts, attach the chain to the tractor drawbar support or other specified anchor location. Provide only enough slack in the chain to permit turning. Do not use safety chain for towing.

6. Make sure safety chain (A) is attached to drawbar support or other specified anchor locations. Do not fasten to drawbar. Provide only enough slack in the chain to permit turning.

7. If transporting machine behind a tractor without connecting PTO driveline, remove PTO driveline assembly. Transport parts in another vehicle to prevent possible loss, damage, and contamination to driveline assembly.
