Replacing Knife and Wiper Plate

causym CAUTION: Use only metric tools to replace knife or wiper plate. Other tools may not fit properly. They may slip and cause injury.

Remove and replace knife (A) when it becomes dull.

1. Remove two 5 mm x 12 mounting cap screws (B) and old knife.

2. Install new knife. Tighten cap screws to specifications.

Specification

Knife Mounting Cap Screws -Torque 4-7 N·m (41-65 lb-in.)

3. Remove two 6 mm x 12 mounting cap screws (D), washers, and slotted wiper plate (C).

4. Install new wiper plate (A) in reverse order as removed using the following special instructions:

  • Wiper plate (A) must be centered with heel of billhook. Move arm until clearance (B) from billhook tongue groove is within specification. Tighten cap screws (C) enough to hold wiper plate for next adjustment.

Wiper Plate-to-Billhook Tongue Groove -Clearance (Approximate) 7.9 mm (5/16 in.)

  • Rotate knotter assembly down slightly while pulling across billhook.

    To move wiper plate (A) across jaw of billhook (B), pull applied should be within specification.

Specification

Wiper Plate Pressure -Force 22-67 N (5-15 lb force)

  • Tighten cap screws (C) to specification.

Specification

Cap Screws -Torque 8-12 N·m (71-106 lb-in.)
