Adjusting Billhook Tongue

NOTE: Adjust billhook tongue pressure when the billhook tongue is free of twine.

Billhook is in proper adjustment when an outward pull of 22.2-66.7 N (5-15 lb force) (A) on billhook tongue will separate jaws per distance (B) specified. Tongue should be tight when closed.

Specification

Billhook Jaw Separation -Distance 3.2 mm (1/8 in.)

  • Increase pressure on billhook tongue by tightening nut (C) on billhook adjusting stud.
  • Loosen nut to reduce pressure.

Excessive tension on the billhook tongue may cause knots to remain on billhook, thus breaking the twine. Incomplete knots may be the result of insufficient pressure on billhook tongue.
