Starting and Operating the Baler

Engage tractor PTO and slowly increase engine rpm to obtain 540 rpm powershaft speed (plungerhead should be up to normal 80 strokes per minute under load). The baler may not produce uniform bales until compression is built up sufficiently to turn the bale measuring wheel. If hay does not fill the chamber, increase ground speed, or increase windrow size.
The baler is operating efficiently when it is making 51-76 mm (2-3 in.) charges (12-18 charges per 91.2 cm [36 in.] bale) of compressed material per stroke. Use right-hand side of pickup to feed crop to ensure good bale shape.
IMPORTANT:
If 51-76 mm (2-3 in.) bale charges are not maintained, poor bale shape will result.

For good bale appearance:

Adjust overhead feeder forks

Make uniform windrows

Operate in a higher tractor gear and reduce engine speed, if necessary

If the auger drive belt slips and is adjusted correctly, baler is operating beyond capacity, which may result in machine damage.

Rough ground conditions may require ground speed or windrow adjustment. Clean out chaff and trash daily from around tying mechanism and plungerhead stop.
5.
Adjust plungerhead after the first 1000 bales and then as often as necessary.
