Transporting on Public Roads

causym CAUTION: A safety chain (A) will help control drawn equipment should it separate from the drawbar while transporting. Using the appropriate adapter parts, attach the chain to the tractor drawbar support or other specified anchor location. Provide only enough slack in the chain to permit turning. See your John Deere dealer for a chain with a strength rating greater than the gross weight of the towed load.

causym CAUTION: When transporting the machine on a road or highway at night or during the day, use accessory lights and devices for adequate warning to operators of other vehicles. Check local governmental regulations. Various safety devices are available from your John Deere dealer. Keep safety items in good condition. Replace missing or damaged items.

1. Be sure SMV emblem and warning lights are clean and visible.

2. Raise and secure bale chute when moving baler to reduce wear on friction washers.

3. Raise pickup to highest position to prevent damage

causym CAUTION: Towed loads with or without brakes that are too heavy for the tractor or are towed too fast can cause loss of control. Use additional caution when towing loads under adverse surface conditions, when turning, and on inclines.

For tractors towing loads more than 1.5 t (3300 lb):

  • If towed equipment does not have brakes, do not travel more than 32 km/h (20 mph) and do not tow loads more than 1.5 times the tractor weight. Ensure the load does not exceed 1.5 times the tractor weight by adding ballast to tractor, lightening the load, or getting a heavier towing unit.

  • If towed equipment has brakes, do not travel more than 40 km/h (25 mph) and do not tow loads more than 4.5 times the tractor weight.

Consider the total weight of the equipment and its load.
