Detaching Platform
CAUTION:
To prevent bodily injury it is necessary to read this manual and the 990 Rotary Platform Operator's manual to familiarize yourself with the operation of the John Deere 4990 Self-Propelled Windrower and platform.
IMPORTANT:

1.
Start windrower engine.

CAUTION:
To prevent bodily injury, do not work under or around a raised platform without engaging the platform lift lockout lever (A).
2.
Raise platform and engage platform lift lockout lever (A). Shut off windrower engine.

3.
Raise right and left-hand side gauge shoes to lowest (1) cutting height.
4.
Start windrower engine, disengage platform lift lockout lever, lower platform to the ground and shut off windrower engine.

CAUTION:
Use extreme care when handling hydraulic motor (B). Hydraulic motor weighs 38.5 kg (85 lbs) plus the hydraulic hoses may add additional force to the motor.

Remove four cap screws (A) and hydraulic motor (B).

NOTE:
If coupler (A) comes out when motor is removed, remove coupler and install on platform gearbox shaft.
6.
Check to ensure coupler (A) is on platform gearbox shaft.

7.
Disconnect wiring harness (A).

8.
Open left-hand compartment door behind cab.
9.
Turn knob (A) counterclockwise to release platform float pressure in the accumulator.
10.
Store all components removed, in the box on the inside of the left-hand compartment door.

IMPORTANT:
With engine running, check platform float pressure. If pressure does not read ZERO, repeat Step 9 in this procedure.
11.
Position a floor jack (A) under front edge of platform as shown and slightly lift front of platform.

12.
Start windrower engine and bump platform tilt switch on hydrostatic drive control until upper link (B) moves without any movement in the platform. Stop windrower engine.
13.
Remove quick-lock pin (C) from pin (D). Remove pin (D) and guard angle indicator (A).
14.
Remove
M10 x 120
cap screw from storage box. Raise upper link assembly (B) and position cap screws (E) in upper hole in the pivot bracket on the windrower.
15.
Install guard angle indicator, pin and quick-lock pin on the platform for safe keeping.

16.
Remove flange-head cap screw and lock nut (B) allowing straps (A) to swing away from platform forming shield. Repeat on opposite side of windrower.

17.
Remove flange-head cap screw (C) and pin (B) on both sides of platform. Lower lift arms.
18.
Start windrower engine and slowly back windrower away moving lift arms (A) from platform. Shut off windrower engine.
19.
Install pin and flange head cap screw in platform for safe keeping.

IMPORTANT:
Do not allow the hydraulic motor to drop to the floor. Move windrower slowly as hydraulic motor is resting on left-hand lift arm.
For proper ballast and steering control, ALWAYS drive the windrower with the platform attached.
20.
If moving the windrower a short distance on a smooth surface, position hydraulic motor (A) on the left front lift arm (B) and hold motor in position with a piece of wire.

For a more secure storage location for the hydraulic motor when platform is removed;

Install hydraulic motor (A) on shipping plate with two existing cap screws and nuts (B).
