Ground Speed
Run machine fast enough to crowd machine with crop. Otherwise, the machine may operate as a fill-empty system which intermittently feeds the conditioner and causes an uneven windrow.
Some fields have a predominant grain where the material leans or lays in a particular direction. The material will flow through the platform and form a uniform windrow at a faster ground speed when traveling with the grain.
When traveling against the grain, the material may tend to become tangled. The windrow may lose a uniform appearance, even at reduced ground speed. Uniformity can be improved by selecting travel directions which minimize cutting against the grain.
