Installing Regular Guards On Cutterbar

IMPORTANT: Assemble cutterbar as illustrated or machine damage may result.

NOTE: Cutterbar is equipped with cast iron hold-downs.

1. Remove cutterbar knife. (See Removing Knife in this section.)

2. Install cap screw (E) in each hold-down (F) until end of cap screw extends approximately three to four threads past bottom of hold-down.

IMPORTANT: To ensure good guard alignment, guards must be pushed and held against cutterbar while tightening lock nuts (D). If guards are not aligned, cutterbar will not wear evenly.

Tighten all lock nuts (D) to 45-50 Nm (33-37 lb-ft).

NOTE: Hold-downs located between Locations 1 and 2 and in the center of Location 2, are installed between guards. The remaining hold-downs are installed directly over the guards. Refer to cutterbar illustration for correct location of hold-downs.

Use 7/16 x 1-3/4 in. round-head bolts (A) and lock nuts (D) to fasten guards with hold-downs.

Use 7/16 x 1-1/2 in. round-head bolts (B) and lock nuts (D) to fasten guards without hold-downs.

3. Location 1 - Remove right-hand trash bar from guard (WITH WEAR BAR) (C). Install guard on end

of cutterbar. Install right-hand hold-down (F) at location illustrated.

4. Location 2 - Install guards (WITH WEAR BARS) (G) and hold-downs (F) as illustrated.

NOTE: Guards at Locations 3 and 4 DO NOT have wear bars.

5. Location 3 - Install two guards (WITHOUT WEAR BARS) (H) and one hold-down (F) as illustrated.

IMPORTANT: To prevent interference with knife drive arm, remove left-hand trash bar. (Location 4)

6. Location 4 - Remove left-hand trash bar from guard (WITHOUT WEAR BAR) (I). Install guard in the first two holes of cutterbar.

7. Install cutterbar knife. (See Installing Knife in this section.)

8. Position knife with one half of knife section under hold-down and one half of knife section on guard ledger surface.

9. Insert a feeler gauge between hold-down and knife section. Adjust cap screw (E) until 0.13-0.25 mm (0.005-0.010 in.) gap is obtained between hold-down and knife section.

10. Maximum gap between guard cutting surface and section is 0.75 mm (0.030 in.)

11. Operate machine for 3 minutes. Make sure knife sections are not heating or binding. Correct any problems.
