Adjusting Net Wrap Knife Arm Stop

NOTE: Knife arm stop adjustment determines the clearance between the knife and the rubber flap.

Check feed roll brake after adjusting knife arm stop.

1. Turn tractor key to ON position. Do not start tractor engine. Set monitor-controller selector switch to NET symbol to turn monitor-controller ON.

2. Press WRAP key and return knife arm to home position (extend actuator).

causym CAUTION: To avoid personal injury from unexpected knife movement, disconnect net actuator wiring connector or power plug.

3. Set monitor-controller selector switch to OFF (centered) position. Turn tractor key to OFF position. Remove key. Disconnect monitor-controller power plug from tractor convenience outlet.

4. Open net wrap cover.

causym CAUTION: Knife is sharp. Use care when working around the knife.

NOTE: Uneven gaps may appear between knife and flap due to natural waviness of the rubber flap.

If stop bolt (A) has been removed or replaced, adjust bolt to approximately 25 mm (1 in.) (B) and check clearance between knife and flap.

5. There should be clearance between knife and rubber flap when actuator rod contacts stop bolt (A). Clearance must be within specification. Do not deflect flap when checking clearance.

Specification

Knife-to-Rubber Flap -Clearance 0.8-1.5 mm (0.031-0.059 in.)

  • Measure inward 76 mm (3 in.) from each end of flap and mark. Check for tightest clearance between marks with feeler gauge. Bend end of gauge, approximately 13 mm (0.5 in.), to a 45 degree angle. Flap contact is acceptable outside of marks.
  • If knife-to-rubber flap clearance is met at the tightest point and clearance exceeds 4 mm (0.16 in.) at other locations, rubber flap needs aligned with knife.

6. To align knife, loosen net guide bolts (C) and adjust flap to knife clearance. Tighten bolts (C).

The following symptoms may occur if the knife-to-belt clearance is too short:

  • Net material may cut off too cleanly and will not be visible below knife edge. If so, increase dimension (B) by turning bolt (A) 1/2 turn at a time. Net cutoff should leave several strings of net material hanging below knife edge but not long enough to touch the pan and belts.
  • Net material may wrap on upper surface wrap roll. If so, increase dimension (B) by turning bolt (A) 1/2 turn at a time.
  • Knife may clamp the wrap material after it is cut and cause the STOP sign to display and the alarm to sound continuously. If so, increase dimension (B) by turning bolt (A) 1/2 turn at a time.

The following symptoms may occur if the knife-to-belt clearance is too long:

  • The net material may not cut off correctly. The STOP indicator will display, alarm will sound continuously, and net material will continue feeding to the bale. If so, decrease dimension (B) by turning bolt (A) 1/2 turn at a time.
  • The net material may snap back and wrap around the rubber roller when the next bale wrapping starts. If so, decrease dimension (B) by turning bolt (A) 1/2 turn at a time.
  • It may not be possible to adjust the brake block to required torque. This may cause incorrect net cutoff. If so, decrease dimension (B) by turning bolt (A) 1/2 turn at a time.

IMPORTANT: Lengthening stop bolt against actuator may damage actuator. Move actuator to mid stroke before adjusting stop bolt.

Current overload protection to net actuator is bypassed when using channel 14. Extended use of channel 14 may cause actuator damage.

7. To change clearance between knife and rubber flap:

a. Connect monitor-controller power plug to tractor convenience outlet. Turn tractor key to ON position.

b. Press and hold DEERE key while setting monitor-controller selector switch to NET symbol to turn monitor-controller ON. "CH 01" will appear in the digital display.

c. Continue to hold DEERE key and press PLUS key to advance to "CH 14". Release DEERE key.

d. Press and hold EXTEND or RETRACT key to move actuator to mid stroke.

e. Set monitor-controller selector switch to OFF (centered) position. Turn tractor key to OFF position. Remove key. Disconnect monitor-controller power plug from tractor convenience outlet.

f. Loosen jam nuts at stop bolt (A) and adjust accordingly:

  • To increase dimension between knife and rubber flap, turn bolt (A) counterclockwise 1/2 turn at a time until correct adjustment is obtained. Tighten jam nuts.
  • To decrease dimension between knife and rubber flap, turn bolt (A) clockwise 1/2 turn at a time until correct adjustment is obtained. Tighten jam nuts.

g. Connect monitor-controller power plug to tractor convenience outlet. Turn tractor key to ON position. Set monitor-controller selector switch to NET symbol to turn monitor-controller ON.
