Stop engine and remove pin (A). Remove control rod from injection pump.
NOTE:
Low idle speed should be 900 rpm ± 30 rpm.

Start engine and move injection pump lever to slow idle position against slow idle screw (B). Using a tachometer or readout on cab corner post record engine speed.

To adjust low idle speed, move pump throttle lever counterclockwise against slow idle screw (B).

Loosen locknut on slow idle screw. Turn adjusting screw clockwise to increase engine speed and counterclockwise to decrease engine speed.
6.
Move injection pump throttle clockwise off adjusting screw and then back. Take engine speed reading. If necessary, repeat Steps 4-6.
7.
Install control rod and pin removed in Step 2.
Checking High Idle Speed
IMPORTANT:
Do not make any adjustment to fast idle screw (C). If fast idle is not

within specification, have an authorized diesel repair station, John Deere servicing dealer, or John Deere engine distributor adjust as necessary.
1.
Start engine and run at 50% load and rated speed until engine reaches normal operating temperature.
2.
Stop engine and remove pin (A). Remove control rod from injection pump.
NOTE:
High idle speed should be 2670 rpm ± 30 rpm.
3.
Start engine and move injection pump lever to high idle position against high idle screw (C). Using a tachometer or readout on cab corner post record engine speed.
4.
If high idle speed needs adjusting notify, your John Deere dealer.
5.
Install control rod and pin removed in Step 2.
