Clean and Inspect Primary Air Filter

IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to clean secondary filter (B). The secondary air filter should be replaced every second or third primary air filter change.

Cleaning Dusty Filter

Tap sides of primary air filter (A) gently by hand to loosen dirt. Do not tap filter against a hard surface.

IMPORTANT: Compressed air can be used to clean primary air filter; however, only a special air cleaning gun should be used. See your John Deere dealer. An ordinary air nozzle may severely damage air filter due to concentrated air pressure.

If tapping filter does not remove dust, clean filter with compressed air. Hold nozzle next to inner surface and move up and down pleats.

IMPORTANT: Do not direct air against outside of filter, as it might force dirt through to inside.

Repeat procedure to remove additional dirt.

Inspect air filter before reinstalling.

Inspecting

Hold a bright light inside filter and check carefully for damage. Discard filter if screen is damaged or if filter shows the slightest rupture or hole.

Make sure gasket is in good condition.

Replacing Air Filter

Replace primary air filter after one year's service or six cleanings or if air filter indicator remains on. Damaged filters should be replaced immediately.
