Before Starting the Engine

causym CAUTION: Prevent asphyxiation. Engine exhaust fumes can cause sickness or death to you or someone else.

If you must operate engine in a building, make sure there is adequate ventilation. Either use an exhaust pipe extension to remove the exhaust fumes or open doors and windows to bring enough outside air into the area.

NOTE: If temperature is below 5°C (40°F), refer to "Cold Weather Starting Procedure Using Intake Air Heater System" in this Section.

1. Check fuel gauge to be sure that there is plenty of fuel in the tank.

2. Move the forward/neutral/reverse lever (T) to neutral position to close the neutral start safety switch.

3. Place rockshaft control lever (A) in lower position.

4. Check alternator indicator light and engine oil pressure indicator light. The indicator lights should glow when main switch is turned to the ON position.

If any light does not function properly, see your John Deere dealer.
