Test Thermostat Opening Temperature
CAUTION:
Remove thermostat housing and coolant hoses only when coolant is cold.
Drain and trap coolant.
NOTE:
If John Deere COOL-GARD
®
is used, the thermostat test interval is extended to 3 years or 3000 hours of operation.
The thermostat housing is located at the left side of engine.
1.
Remove housing and take out the thermostat.
2.
Visually inspect thermostat for corrosion or damage.
3.
Suspend thermostat and thermometer in a container of water.
CAUTION:
Do not allow thermostat or thermometer to rest against the side or bottom of container when heating water. Either may rupture if overheated.
The thermometer has to be usable for temperatures up to minimum 110°C (230°F).
4.
Stir the water as it heats. Observe opening action of thermostat and compare temperatures with specification given in the chart below.
NOTE:
Due to varying tolerances of different suppliers, initial opening and full open temperatures may vary slightly from specified temperatures.
