A - Release Lever

B - Hook

C - Lift Link Adjusting Nuts

The pick-up hitch is operated using the hitch controls and the release lever (A).

  1. Raise draft links to maximum height.

  2. Pull and hold release lever (A) (located behind the seat) to unlock the hook.

  3. With lever (A) still pulled, lower draft links until the hook is at desired height. Release lever (A).

  4. Reverse the tractor to position the hook under the trailer towing eye.

  5. Raise draft links to engage hook in trailer towing eye, then continue to raise the hitch until hook (B) engages in its lock position. Lever (A) will return to its home position.

  6. Lower the draft links slightly until the trailer weight is supported by the hook.

  7. Check that the pick-up hitch is locked correctly. It will not lower when the draft links are lowered.

IMPORTANT: If the release lever is hard to operate or the hook does not lock properly (step 5 or step 7 above), have your John Deere dealer check the setting of the lift links (C) or of the pick-up hitch hook.

Pick-up hitch components that are subject to wear must be checked every 250 hours. Replace them if necessary.

CAUTION: Before driving away, make sure the pick-up hitch is fully raised and locked.

With the pick-up hitch lowered, NEVER reach between hook mechanism and transmission housing. Risk of injury!

NOTE: Lubricate the pick-up hitch every 250 hours, see Service - Every 250 Hours.

For maximum permissible static vertical loads and towable loads, see Specifications.

Drawbar: It is possible to replace the hook of the pick-up hitch with a drawbar. To do this proceed as described above in steps 1, 2 and 3. Then shut off the engine and change hook or drawbar.

Remove the retaining pins of the hook frame and carefully pull out the hook to replace it with the drawbar. To reinstall hook, reverse removal procedure.

CAUTION: Take care to reinstall all securing pins and inspect the pick-up hitch pivots for obstructions.
