Driving Tractor on Public Roads
CAUTION: When driving on a public road, use accessory lights
and devices for adequate warning to operators of other vehicles. Check
local governmental regulations. Various safety devices are available
from your John Deere dealer. Keep safety items in good condition.
Replace missing or damaged items. NEVER operate rear facing
work light when transporting tractor. A clear bright light at the
rear of the tractor could confuse drivers of other vehicles as they
approach from the rear.
Before operating tractor on a road, lock brake pedals together.
Use brake lightly and cautiously at transport speeds.

IMPORTANT: Refer to Section Lights for detailed descriptions
of lighting operations and functions.
-
Couple brake pedals together using locking pin (A). Avoid hard
applications of brakes. Reduce speed if towed load weighs more than
the tractor and is not equipped with brakes (refer to implement operator's
manual for recommended transport speeds).

Turn the light switch (B) to the full beam headlights or
the low beam headlights position. Never use rear work lights (A).
Always dim headlights before meeting another vehicle. Keep headlights
properly adjusted.
-
Use turn signals when turning. Be sure to return turn signal
switch to center position after turning.
-

Disengage front-wheel drive using switch (B). Driving on
hard surfaces with front-wheel drive engaged will result in excessive
wear of front tires.
-
Do not engage the differential lock. See Use Differential Lock
in this Section.
-
Drive slowly enough to maintain control at all times. Slow down
for hillsides, rough ground, and sharp turns, especially when transporting
heavy, rear mounted equipment.
-
Before going down a hill, shift to a gear low enough to control
speed without using brakes. Never coast downhill.
-
When driving downhill on icy or graveled grades, be alert for
skids which could result in loss of steering control. To decrease
chance of skids, reduce speed and be sure tractor has proper ballast.
-
Use additional caution when transporting towed loads under adverse
surface conditions and when turning or braking on inclines. Be sure
wheel tread is adjusted wide to provide maximum stability.
