Cold Weather Engine Starting - Below 0°C (32°F)

NOTE: Ensure that the engine oil viscosity and fuel grade are appropriate for the operating conditions.

NOTE: The Starting Aid is optional equipment that may not be installed on all machines.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT crank the starter motor for more than 20 seconds continuously. If the engine fails to start, wait at least two minutes before the next starting attempt in order to let the starter motor cool.

1. Set throttle to idle by pressing the throttle switch briefly.

2. Insert the key into the ignition switch. Turn the key to "START" (position 3) to crank the engine.

3. After one or two revolutions of engine crankshaft, press and hold the Starting Aid Switch (if installed) until engine starts. Crank engine for 20 seconds maximum then allow two minutes between cranking periods.

4. When the engine starts, release the ignition switch (and the starting aid switch, if used). Let the engine idle at approximately 1000 rpm until the engine coolant warms to normal operating temperature.

IMPORTANT: Prevent damage to engine. Use starting aid when temperatures are below 4°C (40°F) and only when engine is cold.

IMPORTANT: Excess starting fluid could damage engine; press the starting aid switch only when engine is cold and cranking. Starting aid fluid is being injected into the engine as long as the switch is pressed.

causym CAUTION: Prevent possible injury from exploding container. Starting fluid is highly flammable. Keep container away from heat, sparks and open flame. Contents are pressurized. DO NOT puncture or incinerate container. Remove container from machine if engine does not need starting fluid.
