Check Engine Coolant Level

causym CAUTION: Explosive release of fluids from pressurized cooling system can cause serious burns.

Liquid cooling systems build pressure as the engine heats. Before removing the radiator cap, stop the engine and let the engine cool.

Remove the radiator cap ONLY after the system has cooled enough to touch with bare hands.

To avoid possible injury, turn the tank filler cap approximately 1/4 turn to relieve residual pressure before removing the cap completely.

1. Open the engine compartment door.

2. The coolant level should be between the ADD and FULL marks on the expansion tank mounted on the engine compartment door.

3. Add coolant as required, using a solution as specified in Section 3-1.

NOTE: If the coolant is down slightly, add coolant, as required, to the expansion tank.

If the expansion tank is completely empty, remove the radiator cap and check the coolant level in the radiator. Add coolant to the radiator until the level is up to the bottom of the filler neck.
