Preparation of Machine Before Leaving For Cutting Area

System Test and Warm-Up

Check for proper machine operation. To assist in the warming up of the hydraulic system, the following steps should be taken:

IMPORTANT: If the hydraulic system fails to respond to the controls, shut the machine down and call a mechanic. Serious damage to pumps and other components could result in equipment failure.

  • Check that the instrument gauges are indicating normal operating conditions.
  • Check that all personnel are clear of machine, at least 300 feet (100 meters) if saw blade is turning.

  • Move the throttle lever to mid position. In severely cold conditions, all cylinder functions should be operated at reduced speed until the engine and hydraulic oil have warmed up.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that Disc Saw Control is turned OFF.

  • Check that the hoist boom is operating correctly. Keep the hoist boom in the partly raised position through the following operations:
    • Operate the clamp arms.
    • Swing the turntable first left, then right, while at the same time tilting the felling head forward and back.
    • Continue the process of warming up the hydraulic system by repeating the above steps several times. As systems warm up engine speed can be increased gradually.
  • Perform a continuous check of the operations of the boom. If any malfunctions are noticed, take the necessary steps to see that the problems are corrected.
