Extinguishing a Fire

Avoid serious personal injury from fire. Do not attempt to extinguish a fire that is too far advanced.

Stop cutting/conditioning immediately at the first sign of trouble. This may be a scorched smell, an unusual sound, or the sight of smoke or flame.

If you can safely extinguish the fire, proceed carefully and follow these guidelines:

  1. Position the tractor upwind from the mower-conditioner to avoid the fire from overtaking the tractor.

  2. Use a fire extinguisher or other source to spray water at the base of the flame, and to cool adjacent parts.
