Every 200 Hours


Cutterbar—Changing Oil

  1. Shorten top link for flattest angle. (See ADJUSTING CUT—TURNBUCKLE TOP LINK OR HYDRAULIC TILT CONTROL in Operating the Mower-Conditioner section.)

  2. Run machine to warm cutterbar oil.

  3. Raise machine and engage cylinder lift stop on RIGHT-HAND side only.

    A - Sight Glass

    Put a 15.1 L (4 U.S. gal) container under cutterbar drain plug (A).



  5. Loosen sight glass with 7/8 in. socket. DO NOT remove plug at this time.

  6. Put wooden block under left-hand side of cutterbar.

  7. Lower machine onto wooden block.

  8. Remove sight glass to drain oil.

  9. IMPORTANT: Tighten sight glass to 77 N˙m (55 lb-ft). Do not over tighten.

    Reinstall sight glass after oil has been removed and torque to specification.

  10. Raise machine and remove wooden block.

  11. Disengage right-hand cylinder lift stop.

  12. Lower machine.

  13. Open door at left-hand side of machine to access fill hose.

  14. NOTE: Approximate cutterbar oil capacity is:

    • 946 Mower-Conditioner - 9.5 L (10 U.S. qt)
    • 956 Mower-Conditioner - 10.4 L (11 U.S. qt)

    Impeller Conditioner

    A - Sight Glass

    B - Fill Cap

    Remove cap (B) on top of fill hose. Add John Deere HY-GARD®oil, or equivalent. (See CUTTERBAR OIL in this section.)



  15. Install filler cap and close door.

  16. Use sight glass (A) at BOTH ENDS of cutterbar to check oil level. (See CUTTERBAR—CHECKING OIL LEVEL in this section.)
