Preparing Mower-Conditioner for Transport

CAUTION:

TS951-UN-12APR90

Prevent collisions between other road users, slow moving tractors with attachments or towed equipment, and self-propelled machines on public roads. Frequently check for traffic from the rear, especially in turns, and use hand signals or turn signal lights.

Use headlights, flashing warning lights, and turn signals day and night. Follow local regulations for equipment lighting and marking. Keep lighting and marking visible and in good working order. Replace or repair lighting and marking that has been damaged or lost.

NOTE: Transporting wide equipment may require additional precautions. Check with state and local regulations that may require a narrow transport. An optional endwise transport system is available from your John Deere dealer.

  1. Be sure SMV emblem, tail warning lights and reflectors are clean and visible.

  2. CAUTION: A safety chain will help control drawn equipment should it accidentally separate from the drawbar. Using the appropriate adapter parts, attach the chain to the tractor drawbar support or other specified anchor location. See your John Deere dealer for a chain with a strength rating equal to or greater than the gross weight of the towed machine. Do not use safety chain for towing.

Mower-conditioner with drawbar hitch; Make sure safety chain is attached.

  3. IMPORTANT: Engage BOTH cylinder locks for transporting. Failure to use both can result in machine damage.

    A - Cylinder Lock

    B - Retaining Strap

Raise platform and engage cylinder lock (A). Retain with strap (B). Repeat on opposite side.

If platform is to be in the raised position for an hour or more, lower platform onto cylinder locks. This will prevent oil transferring from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder causing hydraulic lock and preventing platform from being raised.

    A - Transport Lock Lever

Transport lock lever must be engaged during transport to prevent mower-conditioner from swaying side-to-side on roadways.

Activate tongue swing circuit to move mower-conditioner to desired position for transport.

Recommended transport position is to have left-hand side of machine even with outside edge of tractor left-hand wheel.

  5. Pull transport lock lever (A) away from tongue to close off swing cylinder ports, locking mower-conditioner in position.
