Slip Clutch Alert

Symptom

Problem

Solution

False slip indication

Slip alarm sounds without PTO or pickup clutch slipping

Check pickup sensor by viewing rpm on control monitor.

Check PTO speed on control monitor.

Slip alert feature can be turned off.

Pickup rpm is higher than PTO sensor rpm

Reverse orange and brown terminals inside connector

One of the clutches slip but the slip alarm does not sound	Monitor not receiving PTO sensor input	Check PTO speed on control monitor.
	Both sensors have not been activated	Check that both sensors are activated and PTO set at proper speed (See Slip Clutch Alert PTO Speed Sensor in Operating the Baler section)

Twine or net wrapping does not correct for slower speed

Improper sensor adjustment, faulty sensor, broken wires

Check PTO sensor adjustment.

Check PTO speed on control monitor.

PTO sensor is damaged

Main clutch contacts sensor

Tighten bolts attaching PTO driveline to gear case

Repair loose gear case shaft (See your John Deere dealer)

Position PTO sensor radially to clear clutch yoke and clutch adjustment screw ends and fore and aft to clear clutch fins (See ADJUST PTO and DRIVE ROLL SLIP CLUTCH ALERT SENSORS in Service-Baler section)

False slip indication or speed display exceeds ± 5 rpm	Missing magnets in tone wheel	Replace tone wheel.
	Tone wheel installed backwards	Reverse tone wheel so magnets are next to sensor.
	Sensor internally damaged	Check sensor resistance. Good multimeter reading will be approximately 3000 Ohms. Bad multimeter reading will be zero Ohms. Replace sensor if multimeter reading is zero Ohms.
	Tone wheel magnets must have opposite polarity and attract sensor	If a tone wheel magnet does not attract sensor, magnet has to be flipped and reglued or replace tone wheel.
	Sensor polarity does not attract any of tone wheel magnets	Replace sensor.
	Gap between sensor and tone wheel or clutch fins is too big	Adjust gap. (See ADJUST PTO and DRIVE ROLL SLIP CLUTCH ALERT SENSORS in Service-Baler section)
