A - Radiator Fill Cap

B - Radiator Drain

CAUTION: Explosive release of coolant from pressurized cooling system can cause serious burns.

Remove filler cap only when cool enough to touch with bare hands and with engine stopped.

Do not remove filler cap until all system pressure is relieved. Relieve pressure by slowly loosening cap to relieve pressure before removing completely.

  1. Turn off engine and remove key. Allow all components to cool.

CAUTION: Never fill cold water or coolant into a hot engine. Allow engine and components to cool.

  2. Move right cab-forward platform to rearward or aft position. Confirm that the platform is locked into the service position.

  3. Raise engine compartment hood to lowest position.

  4. Before removing radiator cap (A), turn cap to the first notch to relieve pressure.

  5. Place a suitable container under the radiator drain (B).

  6. Remove the radiator cap and open radiator drain valve (B) on the engine side of the radiator lower tank. Use a deflector or hose to prevent coolant running onto frame.

    C - Heater Shut-Off Valve

Close heater shut-off valve (C) and disconnect hose on heater side of valve.

  8. Open heater shut-off valve to drain block.

  9. When system has drained, replace heater valve hose and close radiator drain valve.

  10. Fill system through radiator with clean water and replace radiator cap.

  11. Open heater shut-off valve(C).

  12. Start engine and turn temperature control knob to HIGH. Run engine until it reaches operating temperature (82-107° C or 180-225° F).

  13. IMPORTANT: Make sure engine reaches operating temperature before shutting off engine and draining system. If engine does not reach operating temperature, the system will not flush properly.

Turn off engine, remove key and drain water out.

  14. Close radiator drain and fill system with clean water and coolant system cleaner. Follow instructions provided with cleaner.

  15. After using cleaner solution, again flush system with clean water. Inspect radiator, hoses and fittings for leaks.

  16. Close drain valves and fill system through radiator. Use Ethylene Glycol with SCA equal parts with high quality, soft, de-ionized or distilled water as recommended by supplier.

  17. Close radiator cap tightly.

  18. Remove cap from coolant tank (D) and add coolant until one-half full.

  19. Move maintenance platform to operating position and close engine compartment hood.
