Change Fuel Filters

Every 500 hours of operation or each season the fuel filters must be replaced.

  1. IMPORTANT: Clean area thoroughly before removing filters. Any dirt allowed to enter the fuel system when changing the filters can be washed into the injection system and will result in damage to injection pump and nozzles.

A - Fuel Tank Shut Off Valve

    B - Filter Head Area

C - Primary Fuel Filter WIF Sensor

D - Primary Filter Drain Valve

Close the fuel supply valve (A) under the tank.

  2. Clean the area around both filter heads (B) and any other area near the filters that might contaminate the fuel system

  3. Disconnect the water in fuel (WIF) sensor (C) from bottom of primary filter.

  4. Place a suitable container under the primary filter drain valve (D) and turn counter clockwise until fuel is drained from the filter.

  5. IMPORTANT: Dispose of fuel filters in accordance with local and regional regulations.

Remove the filter. Use a filter wrench, if necessary. Clean the gasket mating surface.

  6. Screw the new filter onto the filter mount until the gasket contacts the filter head.

  7. Re-connect WIF sensor.

  8. Tighten the filter an additional 1/2 to 3/4 turn by hand.

  9. Place an appropriate container under the secondary filter and remove the filter.

  10. Clean the gasket mating surface.

  11. Screw the new filter onto the filter mount until the gasket contacts the filter head.

  12. Tighten the filter an additional 1/2 to 3/4 turn by hand.

  13. Open the fuel valve under the tank and prime the fuel system. See the following procedure.

Prime Fuel System

Controlled venting of air is provided at the injection pump through the fuel drain manifold.

Small amounts of air introduced by changing filters or injection pump supply line will be vented automatically, if the fuel filters have been changed in accordance with instructions.

Manual priming of the fuel system will be required if:

  • Fuel filters are replaced.
  • Injection pump is replaced.
  • High-pressure fuel lines are replaced.
  • Engine is run until fuel tank is empty.

Prime the system as follows:

  1. Stop engine and remove key.

  2. Open engine compartment hood to lowest position.

  3. Turn the priming knob (A) counter clockwise to unlock the plunger on the primary filter head.

  4. Pump approximately 120 times to pressurize the fuel system.

  5. Lock the plunger by turning knob clockwise until snug.

  6. Try starting engine. If engine does not start, repeat priming.
