C - Maximum Fill Line

D - Minimum Fill Line

Explosive release of coolant from pressurized cooling system can cause serious burns.

Remove surge tank fill cap only when cool enough to touch with bare hands and with engine stopped.

Do not remove fill cap until all system pressure is relieved. Relieve pressure by slowly loosening cap to relieve pressure before removing completely.

IMPORTANT: In case of excessive coolant loss, never pour cold water into a hot engine, as it might crack cylinder block or head.

Never operate, even for a few minutes, engine without coolant.

Never fill radiator when engine is overheated, unless engine is idling slowly. Pour coolant in slowly.

Never use high silicate automotive coolant.

NOTE: Fill system with specified coolant that contains coolant conditioner. (See DIESEL ENGINE COOLANT in Fuel, Coolant, and Lubricants section).

  1. Check coolant level in surge tank. If coolant is below minimum fill line (D), add coolant.

  2. Add coolant through filler cap on tank to maximum fill line (C).

  3. NOTE: Cooling system capacity is approximately 11.9 (12.6. gal).

Start and run engine for several minutes with fill cap off.

  4. Stop engine, remove key. Let system cool and check level in coolant tank.

  5. Add coolant as needed to tank. Install fill cap.
