Break-In Maintenance

Hardware Torque

Check hardware for proper torque and tightness after the first 5 hours of service and continue until stability is achieved.

  • Tighten all bolts to the torques specified in chart, unless otherwise noted throughout this manual.
  • Check tightness of bolts periodically, using bolt torque charts as a guide.
  • Replace hardware with the same strength bolt.
  • Torque figures are valid for non-greased or non-oiled threads and heads unless otherwise specified. Do not grease or oil bolts or capscrews unless specified in this manual.
  • When using locking elements, increase torque values by 5%.

Sickle Drive Belts

Check the tension of Sickle Drive Belts after the first 5 hours of operation and periodically for first 50 hours.

For single knife headers and to 40 FT double knife headers with non-timed drives.

Tension Adjustment - Non-Timed:

IMPORTANT: Do not over-tighten belts. Belt and drive life will decrease.

CAUTION: To avoid personal injury, before servicing machine or opening drive covers, follow procedures in PREPARATION FOR SERVICING.

  1. Open/remove endshield.

    B - Adjuster Bolt

    C - Belt

Loosen two bolts (A) on sickle drive mounting bracket.

  3. Loosen jam-nut (B).

  4. Turn adjuster bolt (C) to move drive motor until a force of 80 N (20 lbf ) deflects belt (D) 18 mm (3/4 in) at mid-span.

  5. Tighten jam-nut at (B) and bolts (A) on drive mounting bracket.

  6. Re-adjust tension of a new belt, after a short run-in period. (5 hours)

Tension Adjustment- Timed Belt:

  1. Remove endshield at left end of header.

  2. Loosen two nuts (A) on sickle drive belt idler bracket.

  3. Insert a long punch or appropriate tool into hole (B) in idler bracket and pry downward until a force of 27 N (6 lbf) deflects timing belt 13 mm (1/2 in.) at mid-span.

  4. Tighten nuts (A) on idler mounting bracket.

  5. Check clearance between belt and belt guide (D). The measurement should be 0.5 - 1.0 mm (0.02 - 0.04 in.). Adjust as follows:

    1. Ensure belt is properly tensioned.

    2. Loosen bolts (E) and adjust position of guide as required.

    3. Tighten bolts.

  6. Re-adjust tension of a new belt after a short run-in period. (5 hours)

Tension Adjustment - Left End Double V-Belt

  1. Loosen two bolts (A) on endsheet.

  2. Turn adjuster bolt (B) to move drive motor until a force of 53 N (12 lbf) deflects V-belts (C) 3 mm (1/8 in.) at mid-span.

  3. Tighten bolts (A).

Re-adjust tension of a new belt after a short run in period (5 hours).

Wobble Box Mounting Bolts

E66718
E66718-UN-02AUG12

Check the torque of the wobble box mounting bolts after the first 10 hours of operation.

Torque the four bolts (A) to 270 N·m (200 lb.-ft.). Torque the side mount bolts first.(upper bolts)

Wobble Box Lubricant

E66719
E66719-UN-02AUG12

Change the wobble box oil after the first 50 hours of operation.

  1. Raise header to allow a suitable container to be placed under wobble box drain.

  2. Open endshield(s).

  3. Remove breather/dipstick (A) and drain plug (B).

  4. Re-install drain plug (B) and add 2.2 litres (2.3 U.S. quarts SAE 85W-140 oil to required level.

  5. Close endshields(s).
