Remove and Install Wheels

  1. It is permissible to use a pneumatic wrench to remove wheel nuts. A torque wrench must be used for tightening process to avoid damage to wheel or hub.

    Procedure shown with an 8-bolt configuration; 10-bolt wheel is similar.

    Check wheel nut torque after first 10 and 50 hours.

    Chock wheels and loosen wheel nuts (A).



  2. Using a suitable jack, raise machine and support axle using a suitable jackstand on a firm surface.

  3. Remove wheel nuts (A) and beveled washers (B).

  4. Repair or replace tire or wheel as necessary.

  5. Install wheel to hub with valve stem outwards, using beveled washers (B) and wheel nuts (A), to a snug fit.

  6. Lower machine and tighten wheel nuts, in an alternating sequence, to specification.

    8-Bolt WheelTorque270 N·m (200 lb·ft)
    10-Bolt WheelTorque450 N·m (332 lb·ft)

  7. Remove jacks, jack stands, and wheel chocks.
