Adjust Needle/Plunger Timing

E83166-UN-02JUN17
A - Needle Marker
B - Center, Rear Plunger Roller
C - Mark, Side Plate
D - Mark, Side Plate
E - Driveshaft, Knotter
Prevent bodily injury or death. Before adjusting needle/plunger
timing:
-
PTO must be switched off
-
Tractor engine must be off, parking brake set, and ignition
key removed
-
Needles throw must be in adjustment
Adjust needle/plunger timing as follows:
-
Trip the knotting mechanism.
-
When turning the flywheel the needle marker can overshoot
the slotted hole. If you overshoot the hole, finish the full cycle
and start over again. DO NOT turn the flywheel to the left. Turning
the flywheel to the left causes a miss alignment.
Turn flywheel to the right until needle marker (A) is visible
in the slotted hole at the retainer.
-
Disconnect knotter driveshaft (E) at lower knotter drive gear
case.
-
Turn the flywheel to the right. Stop when the center (B) at
the rear plunger roller is visible between the two markers (C and
D) in the side plate.
-
Engage flywheel brake.
-
Connect knotter driveshaft (E).
-
Disengage flywheel brake.
Turn flywheel by hand clockwise through a complete plunger stroke
cycle.
-
Recheck needle/plunger timing.
-
Check and adjust needles to knotter if necessary. (See Adjust
Knotter in this section.)
