In the Case of Fire—Supplemental Information

TS227-UN-15APR13
Stop baling immediately at the first sign of flames, smoke,
scorched smell, or an unusual sound.
Do not risk personal injury. Burning tires and heated
gas springs can explode unexpectedly. Avoid burns or smoke inhalation.
Do not attempt to extinguish a fire that is too far advanced; move
safely away from the fire.
If the fire can be extinguished or contained safely, proceed
carefully and follow these guidelines.
-
Avoid the fire overtaking the tractor by positioning the tractor
upwind from the baler.
-
Open the baler gate and eject any crop material from the bale
chamber. Drive away from the material, shutoff the PTO, stop the tractor,
and set the parking brake.
-
Pull the drawbar pin, unhook safety chains, and then drive the
tractor away from the baler (letting the driveline, hydraulic, and
electrical connections pull free).
-
If possible, call the fire department for help and give them
your location.
-
Do not position yourself under an open baler gate. If the baler
is on fire, the gate can fall.
-
Stay upwind of the fire; follow instructions on your fire extinguisher
when available.
