Precutter Difficulties—450M Only (If Equipped)

Rotor is plugged at the front side.

Ground speed is too high.

Reduce the ground speed.

 

PTO speed is low.

Increase the PTO speed.

 

Baler tongue is too high or too low.

Level the machine. (See Adjust Baler Hitch in Preparing the Baler.)

 

Crop flow is irregular.

Check the roller baffle springs.

Adjust the windrower or rake.

Crop loss is excessive.

Crop being cut is too fine.

Reduce the number of knives. (See Remove and Install Precutter Knives in Preparing the Baler section.)

Lower the engine rpm

Make larger windrows.

Place twine across the full width of the bale or use the net wrap.

Rotor is plugged at the rear.

Cutting length is too short.

Reduce the number of knives. (See Remove and Install Precutter Knives in Preparing the Baler section.)

Crop wrapping around the rotor.

Rotor strippers or auger strippers have excessive clearance.

Adjust the strippers to correct clearance.

Excessive power required to operate the machine.

Dull knives.

Sharpen the knives. (See Sharpen Knives in Service section.)

 

PTO speed is low.

Increase the PTO speed.

Reduce the ground speed.

 

Rotor strippers or auger stripers are clogged or dirty.

Reduce number of knives. (See Remove and Install Precutter Knives in Preparing the Baler section.)

Knives cannot be engaged.

Dirt between or around the knife mechanism is blocking knife movement.

To remove blockage; clean the knife slots, knife sides, and the knife mechanism.

Cycle the drop floor with the knives engaged. Lower and raise the floor.

 

Oil cannot flow to the knife cylinders.

Check the shutoff valve of the hydraulic system.

Knives cannot be disengaged.

Oil cannot flow to the knife cylinders.

Check shutoff valves of the hydraulic system.

Bales are not holding together.

Crop being cut too fine.

Reduce number of knives. (See Remove and Install Precutter Knives in Preparing the Baler section.)

Increase the number of net layers on the bale or increase the amount of net applied to the bale.
