Diagnose Hydraulic Functions

Baler will not feed; Hay plugged at feed opening.

Bale density is too high.

Check relief valve. Replace if defective. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

Adjust variable (soft) core valve (if equipped). (See Optional Variable Core Feature in Operating the Baler section.) If not equipped, install variable (soft) core option. (See Attachments section.)

 

Gate opens while baling due to internal leakage in system components.

Repair or replace leaking component. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

Bale sticks in chamber.

New baler.

Follow the break-in instructions in Operating the Baler section.

 

Bale density too high.

Check the relief valve. Replace if defective. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

 

Damp crop or buildup on side sheets.

Clean the side sheets.

 

Excessive side sheet friction.

Check straightness, and straighten the front side sheets of the baler. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

 

PTO not turned on while ejecting the bale.

Turn on the PTO while ejecting the bale.

Bale density too low.

Faulty tension or gate cylinder.

Repair the cylinder if leaking. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

 

Faulty relief valve.

Check relief valve. Replace if defective. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

 

Damaged O-rings or backup rings on relief or check valves.

Replace. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

 

Damaged seat or poppet in relief or check valves.

Replace. (See your John Deere dealer.)

 

Foreign material keeping check or relief valve poppet from seating.

Clean or replace. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

 

Dirty hydraulic oil in tractor.

Change tractor filter and oil.

 

Belts stretched too long.

If belts are longer than the maximum listed, measure belts and replace or shorten. (See Repair Belts in Service—Baler section.)

Gate opens while baling.

Net wrap stretch is too low.

See Check and Adjust Net Wrap V-Belt Idler Adjustment in Service—Net Wrap.

 

Tension or gate cylinder extends when gate is closed and tractor selector control valve (SCV) is in neutral.

Air in the hydraulic system. Open and close gate several times to remove air.

Faulty relief valve. Replace. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

 

Tractor selector control valve (SCV) leaking.

Repair or replace. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

 

Internal leak in the baler hydraulic system.

Repair. (See your John Deere dealer or qualified service provider.)

 

Tension arm twisted from baling with the gate lock lever in the LOCKED position.

Replace tension arm. (See your John Deere Dealer.) (See Check Gate Lock Valve Interlock Lever Adjustment in Preparing Baler section.)

Gate will not close or closes erratically.

Obstruction between the gate and frame.

Remove obstruction.

 

Crop buildup on the belts.

Remove buildup. Operate PTO while closing gate.

 

One or both orifices (located near the quick-disconnect end of the hoses) not installed correctly.

Reverse direction of orifices.

 

Hydraulic flow of tractor is too low.

Adjust tractor hydraulic flow. (See your tractor operator's manual.)

 

Crop buildup on the belts.

Remove buildup. Operate PTO while closing gate.
