    Right-hand Side of Baler:

    • Loosen three flange mounting cap screws (A) and cap screw (C).
    • Remove the roll chain (D).
    • Finger tighten cap screws (A) to allow side-to-side movement of the cast housing and position roll to check roll wiper-to-side sheet clearance.

  2. Left-hand side of baler: Remove crop buildup around shaft and roll area.

  3. Remove cap screw (B) and sprocket, noting position and quantity of washers at each location.

  4. Remove lower drive roll chain (E) and starter roll chain (F).

  5. Remove four cap screws through the bearing housing and remove bearing.

  6. Wire brush the roll shaft.

Clean washers and replace if necessary.

  7. All 1.5 and 3.0 mm (0.06 and 0.12 in) thick washers must be machined and hardened on left-hand lower drive roll position to avoid center bolt loosening or hex knock.

Install chamfered spacer (A) (chamfer toward roll), hardened washers (B), and bearing (with the UP stamp toward the top of the baler) on the shaft. Snug the four flange nuts (C) and pull the roll firmly to left-hand side of the baler.

  8. Center roll side-to-side:

    • Center roll side-to-side.
    • Measure from the outer rubber strip to the side sheet on both sides to check roll centering.
    • The difference between the two dimensions must be 6 mm (0.24 in) or less.
    • If needed, add or remove washers between the roll and the left-hand bearing to center roll.

  9. Tighten flange nuts (C) to specifications.

Install sprocket and hardened washers (D).

  12. To remove all end play from the left-hand side of the baler, tap the right-hand side of the roll.

  13. Hold lower roll shaft to the left-hand side and push lower drive roll sprocket and washers inward.

  14. Using a straight edge, check alignment between the gear case output shaft outer sprocket and lower drive sprocket. Add or remove machined and hardened washers between bearing and sprocket on lower drive roll shaft, as needed.

  15. Add or remove regular washers between the bearing and sprocket on starter roll shaft, as needed, to align starter roll sprocket with lower drive roll sprocket.

  16. To avoid the hex knock and cap screw (C) from loosening, keep hardened washers (A) centered about shaft. Make sure hardened washers (A) are not clamped between the end of the shaft and the thick washer (B).

Install hardened washers (D) between sprocket and end of shaft so washers extend 3—6 mm (0.12—0.24 in) past end of shaft.

  17. Install cap screw (C) with thick washer (B). Tighten cap screw (C) to specification.

A - Flange Head Cap Screw (2—8M and 1—10M used)

    B - Flange Nut (3 used)

Install three flange mounting cap screws (A) and nuts (B). Only tighten cap screws enough to get a light contact between the cast flange and mounting strap. Some rotation (a light tap) of the cast flange around the outer race can be required to align flange correctly at all three locations. Do not tighten cap screws at this time.

  23. Check to see if roll is centered in the hole in the side sheet.

If necessary, loosen cap screws (A) and flange nuts (B) to insert shims (C) between bearing mounting flange and the cast bearing flange to center rolls in holes in the side sheet.

  25. Only retighten cap screws enough to get a light contact between the cast flange and mounting strap. Some rotation (a light tap) of the cast flange around the outer race can be required to align flange correctly at all three locations. Do not tighten cap screws at this time.

  26. Rolls must rotate freely. Check roll clearance through the hole in the side sheet.

If roll is equipped with wiper pins, it is permissible to grind drive roll wiper pins to 3 mm (0.12 in) minimum height.

To verify that the clearance with the side sheet hole is according to specifications, spin the upper drive roll. Add or remove shims (C) or move right-hand bearing plate, or grind drive roll wiper pins, if equipped.
