Replacing Mower Drive Belts

1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

2. Put attachment lift lever in lowest position.

3. Remove right and left deck shields. (See Removing and Installing Machine Shields in the SERVICE MOWER section.)

4. Remove engine sheave shields.

   42 in. (107 cm) Mower Deck

   Remove mower drive belts from 42 in. (107 cm) deck:

   1. Insert a 3/8 in. drive head tool into the square hole (A) in the right idler bracket. Rotate the idler bracket counterclockwise to remove tension from the right drive belt (B) and remove the belt from the engine sheave.

   2. Loosen nuts securing two sheaves (C).

   3. Remove right drive belt (B) from mower deck.

   4. Insert a 3/8 in. drive head tool into the square hole (D) in the left idler bracket. Rotate the idler bracket counterclockwise to remove tension from the right drive belt (E) and remove the belt from the engine sheave.

   5. Loosen nuts securing two sheaves (F).

   6. Remove left drive belt (E) from mower deck.

   36 in. (92 cm) Mower Deck

   Remove mower drive belt from 36 in. (92 cm) deck:

   1. Insert a 3/8 in. drive head tool into the square hole (G) in the right idler bracket. Rotate the idler bracket counterclockwise to remove tension from the drive belt (H) and remove the belt from the engine sheave.

   2. Loosen nuts securing three sheaves (I).

   3. Remove drive belt (H) from mower deck.

7. Inspect both belts for wear or damage; replace as necessary.

8. Clean top surface of mower deck and sheaves.

9. NOTE: For 42 in. (107 cm) deck, the left mower deck drive belt is installed on the engine sheave first.

   Install belts on mower deck and engine sheaves as shown. Ensure belts are in the grooves of each sheave and inside belt guides.

10. Tighten sheave nuts to specified torque.

11. Install engine sheave shields.

12. Install right and left deck shields.
