Combine Adjustments

Before the start of each harvesting season, check the following combine adjustments.

Adjusting Single Tine Separator Driven Sheave Gap - run single tine separator to the low speed position to close the sheaves. If sheave gap is more than 8 mm (5/16 in.), it limits sheave travel. If sheave gap is less than 4 mm (13/16 in.), it limits torque sensing. See ADJUSTING SINGLE TINE SEPARATOR DRIVE SHEAVE GAP in the SEPARATOR section of this manual.

Concave Sensor Zero Calibration - Proper concave adjustment is CRITICAL to the overall harvesting performance of the combine. If the concave is not adjusted correctly the following symptoms may occur.

  • poor threshing
  • poor separating
  • poor grain quality
  • reduced combine capacity

See CONCAVE SENSOR ZERO CALIBRATION in the Calibration Procedures section of this manual.

Clean Grain Elevator Chain Adjustment - Improper adjustment will result in premature wear to chain paddles, sprockets and elevator housing (see ADJUSTING CLEAN GRAIN ELEVATOR CHAIN in the Separator section of this manual).

Tailings Elevator Belt Adjustment - Improper adjustment will result in belt slipping or belt failure (see ADJUSTING TAILINGS ELEVATOR BELT in the Separator section of this manual).

Tailings Elevator Drive Chain Adjustment - Improper adjustment will result in premature wear of chain and

sprocket (see ADJUSTING TAILINGS ELEVATOR CHAIN in the Separator section of this manual).

Tailings Elevator Paddle Chain Adjustment - Improper adjustment will result in premature wear to chain, paddles, sprocket and elevator housing (see ADJUSTING TAILINGS ELEVATOR PADDLE CHAIN in the Separator section of this manual).

Upper Tailings Auger Drive Chain Adjustment - Improper adjustment will result in premature wear to sprockets and chain (see ADJUSTING UPPER TAILINGS AUGER DRIVE CHAIN in the Separator section of this manual).

Straw Chopper Baffle Adjustment - Adjust baffle up or down to control distance chopped material is spread (see ADJUSTING BAFFLE in the Straw Chopper and Spreaders section of this manual).

Straw Chopper Fin Adjustment - Adjust fins so material is spread over a wide area but does not cover uncut crop (see ADJUSTING STRAW CHOPPER FINS in the Straw Chopper and Spreaders section of this manual).

Knife Adjustment - Position of knives determines the cut length of straw, to adjust knives (see ADJUSTING KNIVES in the Straw Chopper and Spreaders section of this manual).

Changing Straw Chopper Speeds - The rear belt can be installed on the outside sheave grooves for 1603 rpm or installed on the inside sheave grooves for 2500 rpm (see CHANGING STRAW CHOPPER SPEEDS in the Straw Chopper and Spreaders section of this manual).
