Sunflower Attachment

These attachments tailor the row-crop head for use in sunflowers. The three attachments may be used together or separately. Operating instructions are included with the attachments.

Outer end shields (A) divide and gather in leaning heads while deflecting uncut heads in adjacent rows. They also prevent the escape of any airborne loose heads or seeds.

A high-back screen (B) helps prevent airborne heads and seeds from escaping over the back of the header. It is perforated for vision.

Deflector rods (C) help guide the stalks to the center of the head and away from the end shields.

When harvesting sunflowers, the row-crop head should be in the "locked-out" or "rigid" position for standing crop conditions. Operate the combine with the header as high as possible to avoid taking in too much stalk. In downed crop conditions, the outer end shields (A) must be removed to allow the header to "float". This will allow the operation of the combine with the header in the "float" position.

The cross auger should be adjusted to 25 mm (1-in.) above the bottom sheet for even material flow. In the event that "flipping" of heads occur, the three outside auger fingers on both sides should be removed and replaced with a set of auger flight extensions.
