1. Remove cotter pins (A) and cover (B).

2. Remove nuts (A), carriage bolts and bracket (B).

3. Loosen nuts (A) on sprockets and adjustment bolt (B).

4. Remove connecting link (C) and drive chain (D).

5. Remove cotter pin (A), slotted nut (B), washer and bearing cap.

6. Remove rotary knife (A).

7. Loosen jam nut (A) and adjusting bolt (B).

8. Remove nuts (A), carriage bolt and plow bolts.

9. Loosen nut (A) and remove cap screws (B), chain guard (C) and adjustment unit (D).

NOTE: A gatherer chain can be repaired by replacing the 2-ply rubber fabric. One of the fabric plies is thicker than the other. Install the THICKER ply (A) so it contacts the crop.

10. Remove gatherer belt (A).

NOTE: A new gatherer belt and chain from service parts will be stiff and chain rollers will not turn freely. This condition is normal for new parts. Chain will wear and loosen during operation.

11. Position belt on sprocket so lug attachment link (A) of the chain is centered between the attachment links (B) of the mating chain within specification.

12. Install adjustment unit (D) and chain guard (C) onto row unit and retain with cap screws (B). Ttighten nut (A).

13. Retain adjustment unit using carriage bolt, plow bolts and nuts (A).

14. Install rotary knife and bearing cap. Retain with washer, slotted nut (A) and cotter pin (B)

15. Tighten slotted nut until a slight drag or shearing action is felt as rotary knife is rotated across stationary knife.

16. Align slot in nut with first available hole in rotary knife shaft and install cotter pin (A).

17. Install chain (A) onto sprockets and retain with connecting link (B).

18. Tighten adjusting bolt (A) until specified force applied midway at (B) between sprockets (C) and (D) deflects chain to specification.

Specification

Sprockets -Force 90 N (20 lb)
Chain -Deflection 2-7 mm (3/32-9/32 in)

Torque nuts (E) to specification.

Specification

Nuts -Torque 115 N·m (85 lb-ft)

19. Run row crop header for a short time. Shut off engine, remove key and lower safety stop. Knife must be warm to the touch, never hot. Repeat adjustment as needed.
