Feed Drum Settings
IMPORTANT:
Failure to verify retracting finger clearance with center draper belt splice connector may result in center belt or connector damage.
Adjusting the feed drum height and/or finger timing is critical in achieving proper material flow from the draper center feed belt to the combine feeder house.
For most crop conditions operate the feed drum with the fingers fully advanced (finger timing rotated fully clockwise as viewed from the right-hand end) with 30 mm of clearance between finger tip to top of belt splice. If crop material is being pulled up behind the feed drum or excessive grain is beings threshed, retard finger timing (rotate counter clockwise) until problem is eliminated. If center belt plugging occurs, lower feed drum to improve finger sweep of the belt to floor distance. Always verify finger to belt splice connector clearance when adjusting drum height or finger timing and never adjust clearance closer than 23 mm (7/8 in.) (failure to verify clearance may result in center belt damage).
When harvesting dry high volume crops (bushy, bulky or high MOG crops); raise the height of the drum in approximately 13 mm (1/2 in.) increments and rotate the finger timing counterclockwise (when the feed drum is viewed from the right-hand end) in approximately 10 degree increments. Evidence that such adjustments may be needed could be material bunching in front of the feed drum or material appearing to go over the feed drum rather than under. Continue making these adjustments until the crop flows under the feed drum smoothly.
See Feed Drum Adjustments Section in this manual for specifics on accomplishing feed drum adjustments.
