Adjusting Row Unit Drive Sprockets With Fixed Speed Drive (Combines)

Corn heads driven from right hand side only - 492, 493, 494 and 592 include one 28-tooth and one 34-tooth sprocket as standard equipment.

Corn heads driven from both sides - 594, 692, 693, 694, 892, 893, 894, 1092 and 1293 Corn Heads include two 28-tooth and two 34-tooth sprockets as standard equipment.

Corn heads are shipped from the factory with the 28-tooth sprocket on the drive shaft and the 34-tooth sprocket on the driven shaft.

NOTE: Row unit speed is factory set at a 1 to 1 ratio.

When operating at increased speeds, install 28-tooth sprocket on drive and driven shafts on one end and a 34-tooth sprocket on drive and driven shafts on the other end to obtain a 1 to 1 ratio.

NOTE: On 492, 493, 494 and 592 Corn Heads, an additional sprocket must be purchased from your John Deere dealer to obtain the 1 to 1 ratio. The 28-tooth sprocket will not require any extra drive chain.

The 1293 corn head has a 19-tooth and 23 tooth sprockets.

For maximum operating speed, install the 34-tooth sprocket on the drive shafts and the 28-tooth on the driven shafts.

Add or remove links from drive chain as necessary. Adjust tightener so chain will operate without climbing or jumping sprockets.

The chart below gives the approximate combine travel speed that is used with each sprocket combination.

NOTE: Travel speed given in chart is a guide and is based on average conditions. Your particular field condition will determine which sprocket must be used.

Clean bulkhead where oil pan (A) is to be installed. Clean old sealer from oil pan flange and apply a 5 mm (3/16-in.) bead of TY15130 (3 oz) silicone sealer on center of flange and around bolt holes in oil pan. Allow sealer to set for 20 minutes or until surface is not tacky, then reinstall oil pan. Replace approximately 0.75 L (1 qt) 80/90 weight gear lube.

causym CAUTION: Install oil pan after changing or adjusting sprockets.

NOTE: Sealant bead must be continuous. Any break in sealant will leak oil.

NOTE: If TY15130 sealer is not available, Permatex #1 or #2, or a good Form-In-Place gasket material can be used.
