Setting Reel
Set reel so slats strike just below the lowest grain heads and just ahead of knife. In crops that are down and badly tangled, the reel must be set to just clear the knife and auger, to sweep material back to the auger.
In short, damp or weedy grain crops, move reel back and down. Reel fingers must clear divider points and be adjusted vertical to cutterbar. Choose a reel speed to match condition of crop. Keep speed as fast as possible without shattering grain or carrying straw around over top of the reel. Slow ground travel speed usually requires slow reel speed.
