Cutting Difficulties

NOTE: In many instances, incorrect adjustments on platform, not ACTIVE HEADER CONTROL ™ , can cause poor cutting action. Make adjustments to ACTIVE HEADER CONTROL only after platform has been adjusted.

Symptom Problem Solution

Ragged and uneven cutting of crop

Feeder house lower shaft not at recommended speed

Check basic speed of combine (see Combine Operator's Manual).

Cutterbar plugged with material

Adjust reel to sweep material off cutterbar.

Check platform and feeder house drives (see Combine Operator's Manual).

Various parts of cutterbar worn, damaged or broken

Check and replace all worn or damaged parts.

Bent knife, causing binding of cutting parts

Straighten knife.

Check guard alignment and, if necessary, align for a smooth cut.

Cutting edge of guards not close enough or parallel to knife sections

Adjust hold downs, replace as required.

Incorrect knife speed

Check feeder house belt tension and condition. Check knife drive belt tension and condition.
