Cutterbar Positions
NOTE:
Rigid platforms are shipped from factory in the extended cutterbar position, which is suitable for most crops and conditions. To reposition cutterbar requires a different knife drive belt, see your John Deere Dealer for proper belt.
Some harvesting conditions require cutterbar to be repositioned.
NOTE:
For short crops, set reel to just clear the cutterbar. In this position, the reel sweeps material from cutterbar that otherwise falls on the ground or lays on cutterbar causing the knife to leave uncut straw (see Reel Adjustment section).
The extended position is for standing, tall, heavy stemmed crops such as grain sorghum, tall wheat, soybeans and for very short, light, dry crops. This position lets tall material fall and feed evenly under platform auger.
NOTE:
Retracted position is mainly used in rice.
The retracted position is for wet, tangled, down and that have heavy weeds. This position places cutterbar near platform auger to allow easy flow of material before slugs form.
NOTE:
In extended position, the center bolt is not supplied with platform.
