The engine is ready for normal operation. However, extra care during the first 100 hours of operation will result in more satisfactory long-term engine performance and life. DO NOT exceed 100 hours of operation with break-in oil.

This engine is factory filled with John Deere Engine Break-in Oil. Operate the engine at heavy loads with minimal idling during the break-in period.

If engine has significant operating time at idle, constant speeds, and/or light load usage, or makeup oil is required in the first 100 hour period, a longer break-in period may be required. In these situations, an additional 100 hour break-in period is recommended using a new change of John Deere Engine Break-in Oil and a new John Deere oil filter.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT add makeup oil until the oil level is BELOW the ADD mark on dipstick. John Deere Engine Break-in Oil (TY22041) should be used to make up any oil consumed during the break-in period.

DO NOT use PLUS-50 ™ Engine Oil during break-in period of a new engine or engine that has had a

major overhaul. PLUS-50 ™ oil will not allow a new or overhauled engine to properly wear during this break-in period.

Check engine oil level more frequently during engine break-in period. If oil must be added during this period, John Deere Engine Break-In Oil is preferred.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT fill above the FULL mark. Oil levels anywhere within the cross hatch marks are considered in the acceptable operating range.

NOTE: Some increase in oil consumption may be expected when low viscosity oils are used. Check oil levels more frequently.

During the first 20 hours, avoid prolonged periods of engine idling or sustained maximum load operation. If engine will idle longer than 5 minutes, stop engine.

After the first 100 hours maximum, change engine oil and replace engine oil filter. Fill crankcase with seasonal viscosity grade oil. (See Diesel Engine Oil in the Fuel And Lubricants section for proper oil specification).

If air temperature is below -10 degrees centigrade (14 degrees Fahrenheit) use an engine block heater.

Temperature gauge needle should read in the green zone during operation.

IMPORTANT: Prevent possible engine damage. Do not stop engine if indicator comes on and gauge needle enters red zone or coolant temperature will rise even higher, resulting in machine damage. Reduce load and run engine at slower speed to lower coolant temperature.

Watch engine coolant temperature gauge closely. If needle on gauge moves into red zone 115°C (240°F), stop engine and check problem immediately.

Check engine oil level at dipstick (A) daily. Do not operate engine when oil level is below low mark on dipstick.

NOTE: Verify dipstick is screwed completely into housing before removing to check oil level.

Remove dipstick and check oil level. Oil level should be between "ADD" and top of cross-hatch area on dipstick. If oil level is below "ADD" mark, add oil as needed. (See Fuel And Lubricants for oil recommendations).

Watch for leaks.

Do not operate engine with oil level below "ADD" mark.

Check coolant level periodically. Watch for signs of leaks. Pour coolant into recovery tank to the "COLD" mark.

Until you become familiar with the sound and feel of your combine, be extra alert.
