Fuel System-Bleeding

IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to pressurize the fuel tank with compressed air or any other means. Fuel tank and surrounding structural damage could result.

1. Close fuel tank shut off valve.

2. Check fuel level and add clean diesel fuel if necessary.

NOTE: Greater fuel quantity in the tank will result in easier priming.

3. Loosen fuel filter inlet fitting (A) to allow air to pass.

4. Thoroughly clean area around precleaner bowl (B) and remove bowl. Remove any contaminates from bowl and screen. Inspect o-ring and reinstall bowl.

NOTE: Removing precleaner bowl is necessary to break any air lock between precleaner and fuel filter inlet check valve that may have occurred if machine was run out of fuel.

5. Open fuel tank shut off valve. Precleaner should immediately fill with fuel.

7. Place a suitable container under water separator bowl (A) and momentarily open drain valve (B) to relieve any pressure within fuel filter and to drain any water or contaminates, then close drain valve.

NOTE: This step will prevent pressure release from diagnostic port as it is opened in Step 9.

8. Remove cover (C) and clean area around diagnostic port.

9. Loosen, but do not remove diagnostic port (D). Diagnostics port will allow air and fuel to escape.

NOTE: It can take up to 350 primer strokes until fuel flows steadily from diagnostic port if the system was emptied of fuel.

10. Operate hand primer (E) until a steady fuel flow free of air flows out of diagnostic port. (Primer must be released fully between pumps.)

11. Tighten diagnostic port. Reinstall fuel fill cap.

12. Disconnect fuel return hose (A) from right-hand side of filter header.

13. Cap off fitting (B) on filter base.

14. Plug end of hose with fitting (C) to keep dirt out.

15. Pump hand primer 100 times.

causym CAUTION: DO NOT crank for more than 30 seconds at a time. Let starter cool down for at least 1 minute before cranking is resumed.

16. Crank engine for 20 seconds.

17. Repeat Steps 15 and 16 until engine starts (2-3 times typical).

18. Run for 1 minute at low idle.

19. Shut engine off.

20. Place suitable container under water separator bowl and momentarily open drain valve to relieve pressure within the filter, then close drain valve. This will lessen the amount of fuel that has be lost in the next step.

21. Remove cap and plug, and reconnect fuel hose to filter base.
