Driving the Combine on Roads

IMPORTANT: Verify grain tank is unloaded before transporting combine on road.

1. Empty grain tank and swing unloading auger to storage position. Use power folding auger switch to fold unloading auger rearward to transport position.

2. Close grain tank covers (A) to reduce height of machine.

causym CAUTION: Swing ladder to full forward position to reduce combine width and to orient warning light toward oncoming motorists.

IMPORTANT: Travel at a reasonable speed for road or field conditions. Always use warning lights. Follow local regulations for equipment size, lighting and marking before driving on public roadways.

NOTE: For machines with long 1390 mm (55 in) ladder extension the ladder can not be positioned in the full forward position. A transport position 9° out from full forward has been provided. (See Cab Ladder Positions in the Operator's Station section).

3. Use lever (A) to unlock ladder and swing to the full forward position.

4. Fold radio antenna down.

5. Lock brake pedals (A) together with lock (B) when driving on roads. Leave brake pedals unlocked for field operation.

6. Sound horn and start engine.

7. Raise header with header raise/lower switch (A).

8. Disengage parking brake (B) with pedal (C).

9. Engage road transport disconnect switch (A).

causym CAUTION: When transporting on a road or highway, flashing warning lights and taillights on both sides provide a warning to operators of vehicles approaching from the front and rear. These warning lights must be turned ON when driving the combine on a public road. Swing cab ladder fully forward as possible in order to orient warning light towards oncoming motorists. Do not operate flashing warning lights if prohibited by law.

10. Turn hazard light switch (A) ON for both daytime and nighttime road travel. Turn ON road lights (B) for nighttime travel. Warning lights automatically operate when hazard lights are ON.

NOTE: Turn signal lights on steering column burn steadily to indicate a turn.

11. Use turn signals as needed. They are not self cancelling.

12. Press engine speed switch (A) for maximum engine speed.

NOTE: For field operation, select a gear according to working conditions.

13. Engage 3rd gear for road travel.

causym CAUTION: If a 1243 or 1293 Corn Head is attached, never transport combine faster than 13 km/h (8 mph) to assure adequate braking performance and control.

14. Shift gears and slowly move multifunction control handle forward or rearward. When coming to the top of a hill, pull back on the multifunction control handle before starting down the other side.
