Primary And Secondary Fuel Filter Element (8.1 L Engine)-Replacement

causym CAUTION: High-pressure fluid remaining in fuel lines can cause serious injury. Only technicians familiar with this type of system should perform repairs. Before disconnecting fuel lines, sensors, or any other components between the high-pressure fuel pump and nozzles on engines with High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) fuel system, wait a minimum of 15 minutes after engine is stopped.

NOTE: Do not clean fuel precleaner and change final fuel filter at the same time. Doing so will make it difficult to restart the machine. Perform fuel precleaner cleaning procedure then run engine before changing the primary and secondary fuel filter.

Change primary and secondary fuel filters if performance decline is noticed or if service code ECU/A00 1347.07 is displayed on cornerpost.

1. Start engine and run 3 to 5 minutes at low idle if machine had not been previously operating.

2. Shut OFF engine.

3. Thoroughly clean exterior of filter elements and filter mounting areas.

causym CAUTION: Fuel in filters may be under pressure. Do not remove filters without completing the following step.

NOTE: Use a catch pan when draining fuel and when removing fuel filters.

4. Drain fuel contaminates and relieve pressure from secondary fuel filter (A) and primary fuel filter (B) by opening drain valves (C).

5. Close drain valves.

6. Disconnect sensor connector (D) from primary fuel filter.

NOTE: Additional fuel will drain from filter housings.

7. Remove fuel filters from combine.

8. Install filler cup (A) on new filters (B).

IMPORTANT: Avoid fuel system contamination. Do not pour fuel directly into filter without filler cup (A) installed. Fill cup blocks the center port of the filter, forcing the fuel to be filtered before entering the injection pump. Injection pump damage could occur if contaminated with dirty fuel.

9. Fill filters with fuel.

10. Remove and dispose of filler cups.

NOTE: Lube filter seals with diesel fuel before installing filters.

11. Install new secondary fuel filter (A) and primary fuel filter (B). Tighten 3/4 turn after seal contacts filter housing.

12. Connect sensor (C).

13. Start engine and run 3 to 5 minutes at low idle. If engine does not start or will not keep running, see Bleeding the Fuel System in this section.
