HARVESTSMART Feed Rate Control-System and Field Symptoms

Machine is accelerating too slow:

  • Increase response rate calibration, see Response Rate Calibration in previous section.
    • Higher the response rate numbers the faster the machine will respond to changes.

NOTE: Increasing response rate by increments of one is hardly noticeable. Increasing response rate by increments of 10 or 20 is more noticeable.

Increasing response rate has no affect on maximum deceleration.

Machine stops or over speed dramatically:

  • If machine reaches high end of threshing speed range or machine stops, decrease rotor speed by 20 - 30 rpm. Recalibrate system, see Target Volume Calibration in previous section.

NOTE: Calibration of Target Value is recommended again since rotor rpm was decreased.

  • If machine is at low end of threshing speed range and feed rate over speeds, increase rotor speed by 20 - 30 rpm. Recalibrate system, see Target Volume Calibration in previous section.

NOTE: Calibration of Target Value is recommended again since rotor rpm was increased.

HARVESTSMART has limits detecting rotor load at the low and high end of threshing speed.

Ground speed oscillating:

NOTE: When harvesting new crops, it is normal for the machine to oscillate for a short period of time.

  • Machine is operating near maximum power (under 2200 rpm) and is causing machine to oscillate (speed up/slow down ground speed), see Engine (RPM) Calibration and Target Volume Calibration in previous section.
    • Increase target to stop oscillation and adjust engine rpm to control ground speed.

Ground speed oscillating in hilly conditions:

  • As machine moves up hill it will keep a constant ground speed. If machine is moving up a steep hill, machine will slow slightly due to high hydrostatic forces, see Maximum Ground Speed Calibration in previous section.
  • As machine moves down hill it increases in speed, see Maximum Ground Speed Calibration in previous section.
    • Operator should set a maximum ground speed that is comfortable. This allows the machine to not exceed the maximum speed when going down a hill.

NOTE: When harvesting in areas where crop conditions are tougher or along waterways and washouts, it is recommended that the operator pull back on the multifunction control handle. This gains control of the machine and slows the ground speed if the operator feels the machine is moving too fast.

Target or ground speed increases with no losses:

  • When operating in SMART mode, VISIONTRAK sensors are not working (matted over, disconnected, or are damaged), which causes the machine to increase speed resulting in high losses, see HARVESTSMART System Modes in previous section.
    • Change from operating in SMART mode to (CPCTY) Capacity mode. This allows constant material flow, allowing machine to increase speed when crop materials are lighter and decrease speed when crop materials are heavier.

System loses target values:

  • Machine was not calibrated correctly or has lost calibration, see HARVESTSMART Initial System Calibration in previous section.
    • Operate machine in constant crop at desired loss levels maintaining that level for 10 - 15 seconds (allows machine to stabilize) and press calibration button on VISIONTRAK display.

Machine reacts too slow for crop changes:

  • Machine response rate adjust is too slow, see Response Rate Calibration in previous section.

NOTE: Increasing response rate by increments of one is hardly noticeable. Increasing response rate by increments of 10 or 20 is more noticeable.

    • Continue to increase response rate until oscillating occurs and lower response rate from that point.
  • High response settings will cause machine to make abrupt ground speed changes to maintain crop volume.
  • Low response settings will allow for less aggressive changes.

Machine reacts aggressively to crop losses:

  • (CPCTY) Capacity mode allows constant material flow, allowing machine to increase speed when crop materials are lighter and decrease speed when crop materials are heavier.
    • Recalibrate VISIONTRAK, see HARVESTSMART Initial System Calibration in previous section.
    • If recalibrating VISIONTRAK has no affect, switch to (CPCTY) Capacity mode, see HARVESTSMART System Modes in previous section.
