Cooling System-Filling

causym CAUTION: Avoid being scalded when radiator cap is removed. Turn cap slightly to radiator stop. This lets steam safely out the vent. Never fill radiator when engine is overheated unless engine is idling slowly. Pour coolant in slowly. Check coolant level when engine is cold.

Fill radiator until no more fluid can be added and fluid begins to run into recovery tank (A), (refer to Specifications Section for capacities).

Loosen plug (A) on top of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler near rear of engine (plug does not need to be removed completely).

Tighten plug to specification when coolant is observed leaking from this location (cooler is now de-aerated).

Finish filling radiator until fluid is at "HOT" mark on recovery tank.

Install cap on radiator, turn ON heater and run engine until it reaches operating temperature.

Remove cap from recovery tank and refill as necessary. Do not fill recovery tank from radiator. Install cap on recovery tank.

When engine is cool, coolant level should be up to the "COLD" mark.

IMPORTANT: Never pour cold water into a hot engine as it might crack cylinder block or head. Do not operate engine without coolant.
