Cooling System-Draining

causym CAUTION: Avoid being scalded when radiator cap is removed. Turn cap slightly to radiator stop. This lets steam safely out the vent. Never open radiator cap when engine is hot. Allow system to cool before draining radiator.

Every two years or 1500 hours, drain cooling system by opening drains on bottom side of radiator (A) and engine block drain (B).

IMPORTANT: Never pour cold water into a hot engine as it might crack cylinder block or head. Do not operate engine without coolant for even a few minutes.

Remove clamp and hose (A) from bottom of recovery tank and drain tank.

Close radiator drains, install hose on recovery tank and fill system with clean water.

Install radiator cap and run engine until it reaches operating temperature with heater ON.

Shut OFF engine, carefully remove radiator cap and drain water out before rust or sediment settles.

Close radiator drains and refill system with a solution of clean water and John Deere Cooling System Cleaner PT500 or its equal. Follow instructions with cleaner.

After using cleaner, flush system with clean water and drain.

Close radiator drains, close and latch rotary screen door and fill system, (see Cooling System-Filling in this section for filling procedure and Fuels and Lubricants section for coolant specifications).
