    B - Header Engage Switch

    C - Separator Engage Switch

Before starting engine, make sure everyone is clear of machine. Sound horn to warn others.

Engine exhaust fumes can cause sickness or death. If it is necessary to run an engine in an enclosed area, remove exhaust fumes from area with an exhaust pipe extension.

If you do not have an exhaust pipe extension, open doors and get outside air into area.

Move multifunction control handle (A) to neutral position.

  2. Verify header engage switch (B) and separator engage switch (C) are OFF.

    B - Key Switch

Sound horn before starting engine to warn others to stay clear from machine.

To avoid the possibility of personal injury or death, start engine ONLY from operator seat. Do not start engine by shorting across starter terminals. Machine will start in gear if bypassed.

Do not use ether or starting fluids to start engines with glow plugs. Ether is highly flammable and could ignite on engines with glow plugs. Engine damage could result.

IMPORTANT: To prevent starter damage, do not operate starter for more than 30 seconds at a time. If engine does not start, wait at least two minutes before trying again.

NOTE: When key switch is turned to “START” a delay of a couple seconds will occur. This allows controllers to power up, relays to close and starter solenoid to energize.

Attempting to start engine before preheat cycle is complete will deactivate glow plugs.

Decal (A) on storage box lid shows engine starting information.

Sound horn and turn key switch (B) located on steering column to “RUN” position.

    Key positions are:

    First Position .............. OFF

    Second Position .............. Accessories

    Third Position .............. Run

    Fourth Position .............. Start

  4. NOTE:

    A - Engine Preheat Timer

    B - Time Countdown

If fuel temperature is below 0°C (32°F) it will be necessary to allow glow plugs to heat before starting, (see Glow Plugs in Operating the Engine section). Times will vary depending on fuel temperature (colder temperatures require glow plugs to heat longer). CommandCenter display will show “Engine Preheat Timer” (A) indicating glow plugs are ON and will countdown (B) a time to when engine can be started. Once activated, plugs remain ON for a minimum period of five seconds and a maximum of 30 seconds depending on temperature. Glow plugs will stay ON an additional five seconds after timer goes to zero and will stay ON for ten seconds (depending on fuel temperature) after engine starts.

    Turn key to “START” position.

  5. NOTE: Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) will display if Stop Engine Code appears on CommandCenter display. Display stops normal functions, indicating a problem that requires the machine be stopped and the problem corrected immediately. Codes are displayed until the problem is resolved. If problem cannot be resolved, see your John Deere dealer.

Release key after engine starts and let engine run at low idle for five minutes to warm oil.
